LASER ABLATION

Laser ablation, cleaning and structuring involves the planar laser processing of component surfaces. Examples are the laser cleaning of gravure / embossing / calendaring rollers or of moulding tools used in the plastic injection moulding technology. In addition, these tools can themselves be equipped or manufactured with the finest laser engraving structures. High surface ablation rates are necessary for efficient processes. These are achieved by using laser tools matching the appropriate wavelengths, intensities and pulse rates of the material. The laser precision tool must be guided over the components at the highest possible speed.

LASER ABLATION

Component surfaces can be processed flexibly, quickly and precisely by laser ablation, i.e. equipped with modified or new functionalities. Examples of this are the planar ablation of surface material, resulting in microstructures or even nanostructures that increase or decrease hydrophobicity. Laser ablation of metallizations on plastic surfaces achieves precise reflector structures with very clear boundaries and individual lighting design. This quality cannot be achieved with masking processes, nor would this be economical. Optical surface structures (e.g. diffusers) in glass can be achieved with even greater precision requirements. Laser cleaning is a scanner-based ablation process that provides a solution for the individual or planar cleaning of moulding tools. It increases the service life and quality of the surface structures produced with these tools.
