Laser Ablation
Cleaning & Structuring
Laser ablation, laser cleaning and laser structuring are all about large-area laser processing of component surfaces. Examples include laser cleaning of gravure, embossing and calender rolls, or of moulding tools used in plastic injection moulding. Economical processing calls for high area removal rates – achieved by using laser tools with the right wavelengths, intensities and pulse rates.
Technology
Scan Head Technology for Maximum Removal Rates
Scan-head-based cleaning of moulding tools – selectively or across the entire surface. This solution extends tool life and improves the quality of the surface structures these tools produce.
Creation of ultra-fine laser-engraved structures in rolls, tools and moulding compounds. Tools can be given custom surface textures.
Creation of micro- or nanostructures that increase or reduce hydrophobicity. Removing metallization from plastic surfaces produces precise reflector structures with very sharp edge definition – results that other processes cannot achieve with masking, or only at uneconomical cost.

About the Process
The Benefits of Laser Ablation
Laser ablation lets you process component surfaces flexibly, quickly and precisely – giving them modified or entirely new functionality. Examples include large-area removal of surface material to create micro- or nanostructures, as well as optical surface structures (such as diffusers) in glass.
No masks, no chemicals – just precision through light.
Large-area ablation geometries achievable down to the nanometre range.
Precise reflector structures achievable without masking.
Diffusers and special structures in glass with exceptional accuracy.
Any structure shape can be programmed via the scan head.
The optimum wavelength for each material – from UV to IR.
Economical processing, even of large component surfaces.
Direct ablation without auxiliary materials saves cost and time.
Multiple benefits from a single process step.
Regular laser cleaning extends the service life of moulding tools.
